While slightly down on last year, when 7.4 Liters of beer were sold, this is nevertheless a staggering (pardon the pun) amount. Most likely the generally good weather played a role, with cheerful visitors turning out by the millions.
Of course it is not just beer consumption that made for fascinating statistics at the 2024 Oktoberfest in Munich.
6.7 million visitors attended the 2024 Oktoberfest
Visitor numbers were strong with 6.7 million people visiting the festival. With a warm and sunny first week and relatively cool second week, visitors spread out over the beer tents, beer gardens and festival rides. Of these, 430,000 people were counted at the Oide Wiesen (traditional festival grounds) this year.
Families with children made up a significant number of visitors this year.
While the majority of visitors came from Munich and surrounding areas, international guests made up significant numbers again. These came mostly from the USA, Italy, the UK, Austria, Poland, France, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands and, for the first time, increasingly from India.
Traditional dress was once again very popular, with the majority of visitors wearing this. There seems to be a trend toward higher quality, locally made traditional dress.
