Oktoberfest Legend: Tim Barley, USA
A big Prost to Tim Barley, from Los Angeles (USA) who shares his Oktoberfest experience.
How many times have you been to Oktoberfest?
I’ve been to Oktoberfest once, in 2014.
Tell us a bit about your experience.
Between all the tour guides, friends I made and Bavarian songs I learned, my experience was fun and rewarding and a great way to check something off of my bucket list. With as much beer that was being imbibed by as many people gathered from across the world, it was an amazingly fun and relaxed atmosphere and everyone was there to have fun. With a tour company like Thirsty Swagman, I was able to meet others from around the world and feel comfortable with the language and culture.
What’s your favourite thing about the festival?
I loved that Oktoberfest was REAL. You hear about it and read about others’ experiences, but when you get there and you are with friends and like-minded individuals, it becomes so much more fun and real. Oh, and the beer!
What would you tell someone who’s never been to Oktoberfest and is thinking about going?
That a ‘Stein’ is a large amount of beer. That they should bring their best attitude and realize everyone is there to have fun and the fact that beer is going to be spilled is just a part of the experience. Eat, as often as you can.
Your favourite beer tent / ride / food?
Whatever was in my Stein at the time. The duck was amazing as were the pretzels. The whole experience from 10am to rocking out at the hotel bar after the festival closed at night was my favorite ‘ride.’
Anything else you’d like to say about this epic event.
I’d love to say that without a tour company like Thirsty Swagman, I wouldn’t have been able to seamlessly jump in directly into the whole experience. Thank you so much.
